Lip balm can be whatever you want it to be, but most successful recipes have two main ingredients: a wax base and a food-grade carrier oil. The wax is melted down and oil is added to the liquid wax along with flavorings and/or healing ingredients to make the lip balm taste good. It is going on your mouth, after all. If it’s edible, it’s wearable, and you need is a little imagination and lots of practice.

Each ingredient has its own properties, so be sure to work with small amounts at first and experiment to find the right combinations and consistencies for you. Also, be aware of allergies and food sensitivities before working with unfamiliar ingredients. Dangerous skin and respiratory reactions can occur if you carry an allergy to certain additives, so be careful!
